Foreign property buying stats due soon - Business - NZ Herald News

Information on the number of foreigners buying New Zealand residential properties will soon be released. A spokesperson for Land Information New Zealand Minister, Louise Upston, said the data would be out this month. "LINZ is working to release data on property transfers and tax residency later this month," the spokesperson said. "This data has been collected as a result of the 2015 property tax law change." However, the first set of figures might be somewhat skewed towards the lower end of the scale. That is because the property transactions could be dated before the new regime came into effect. "For several months following the law change, high numbers of buyers and sellers have not had to provide the new information as their sale and purchase agreement was dated before the law change came into force, that is before October 1, 2015. Because of this, we have gathered information for a six-month period. This gives us a larger sample size," Upston's spokesperson said.

Mortgage rates dip to annual low: Will they stick?

When the Federal Reserve raised its interest rates late last year, most mortgage rate prognosticators saw it as a sure sign that home-loan rates would finally rise meaningfully. In fact, just the opposite has happened. The average rate on the popular 30-year fixed loan is now at its lowest level of the year and could potentially head lower into new record territory.

CBRE: Kiwi investors - not Chinese - fuel commercial property boom - CBRE - NZ Herald News

Chinese investors, often the source of controversy, are focusing far more on the US, Australia and the UK - with Kiwi investors most active in the New Zealand commercial property market, according to new research by global real estate giant CBRE. "While some are fixated on Chinese investment, our research shows that, of a total US$15 billion of Chinese external global property investment in 2015, New Zealand saw 1 per cent of that total. That compares to 30 per cent going into the US, 24 per cent into Australia and 12 per cent into the UK," says Andrew Stringer, CBRE NZ's National Director Capital Markets. But, led by active Kiwi investors, the boom in commercial property investment (2015 saw more commercial properties in New Zealand bought and sold than even before the Global Financial Crisis) is set to continue, says Stringer.
